Falstaff International, a magazine and media platform dedicated to wine, food and travel, has published an article about Georgia’s winemaking history and viticulture tradition.

Featuring iconic elements of the national tradition such as fermentation of wine in large clay vessels known as qvevri, the piece highlights the 8,000-year-long history of wine culture on the modern territory of the country, including local customs of toast and the traditional supra feast.

It also notes the steadily growing sales of Georgian wine on the German market and the modern high-quality domestic wine industry.

The article also introduces readers to the country’s “unmanageable” number of over 525 grape varieties and points out the eastern winemaking Kakheti region with its 80 percent wine production.

The article also provides about the winning Georgian wines of a competition hosted in June within the cooperation between the country’s National Wine Agency and the magazine where 70 wines were selected out of 150 samples by Georgian companies.
