Wine News, an Italian news daily focusing on wine and food, has published a series of articles about Georgian wine and the tourism potential of the country.

One of the articles highlights the “enormous symbolic value” of qvevri, the traditional Georgian clay vessel for wine storage.

The article explains the role of the qvevri in storing the liquid while being buried in the soil, from which “it will be reborn, like many divinities, obviously starting from Dionysus”.

The article also introduces readers to the underground wine cellars in the country, known as the marani, and notes the long-standing winemaking culture to be a “defining” feature of the country.

Three journalists from Wine News visited Georgia as part of the Merano Wine Festival in June, which went beyond the borders of Italy for the first time in 2022 and was hosted in Château Mukhrani, Georgia, in partnership with Association Georgian Wine. The same organisers held the festival again this year.
