ITB Berlin, a business platform for global tourism offers, on Monday published an article promoting Georgia as a destination to spend winter holidays and listing five reasons for visitors to discover the country.

Noting the “never-ending holidays”, annual mekvle tradition on New Year’s Eve and the Day of Luck on the second day of the new year, as well as the Georgian supra (or feast) and events like the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Championships, the publication names them as attractions for tourists to spend the holidays in Georgia.

The post explains that Georgians also celebrate the “Old” New Year on January 14, and that each household has its own mekvle selected for the New Year’s Eve - a custom believed to have the power of granting good fortune to the household during the year.

The Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships will be hosted in the country’s mountain resort of Bakuriani in February, the article also highlights, with the location preparing for the event with freshly installed and upgraded, modern infrastructure.
