Georgia's Gudauri ski resort has been listed at the top of a 10-spot selection of locations across the continent worth visiting for winter sport and recreation enthusiasts by Emerging Europe.
The online platform focused on all things Europe compiled the list of go-to spots following a lifting of restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, and the Georgian location received praise for more than one reason.
Gudauri has been a favourite of skiers-in-the-know for a number of years. Offering almost 1,500 metres of vertical drop the resort is a dream for skiers of all abilities, with wide-open cruising for beginners and improvers, some fabulous off-piste for powder fans and Europe’s cheapest heli-skiing for real adrenaline junkies" - Emerging Europe
The listing for the resort that has been Georgia's major ski destination for decades briefly introduces its attractions, from the absence of crowds to affordability.
Craig Turp-Balazs, author of the selection, also notes a few drawbacks with the location while explaining reasons for picking the destination - perched 2,200 metres above sea level - at the top of the list, ahead of hubs like Poland's Zakopane and Borovets in Bulgaria.
