French newspaper Le Monde has published an article about the legislative act recently signed by US President Donald Trump which declares that Abkhazia and South Ossetia are Russian-occupied territories belonging to Georgia.
Le Monde writes that Moscow, who had hoped for closer ties with Washington, could be disappointed after a distant Georgia was mentioned in the 700-page legislative document of the US.
The article calls Trump a "protector of Georgia” and stresses that neither the Obama administration nor the Bush Administration had ever qualified Russia’s actions in Georgia as an occupation.
