The eighth Dubai Art Fair took place from March 19-22, 2014, at Madinat Jumeirah.

The Popiashvili Gvaberidze Window Project was presented with nine pieces of art from Georgian artists on an international scale at the Dubai Art Fair, in the Marker section. The work of Georgian participant Giorgi Khanashvili was highlighted in Anna Kats article published on the Blouin Artinfo website on March 31.

Khaniashvili’s social critique emerges from the stark contrast between craft and subject matter in his work, pitting traditional values against contemporary culture in Georgia, the journalist said.

Khaniashvili’s 2010 ‘Venus’, a wood figurine with an androgynous body and a head painted in the style of a female Byzantine saint, criticizes the Georgian Orthodox Church’s opposition to the country’s LGBTQ community.
