The Sochi Olympics are over and Georgia expects Russia to increase pressure on Georgia before signing the Association Agreement with the European Union. A possible threat from Russia and strategic support from United States and Europe was highlighted in Giorgi Lomsadze’s article, which was published in the online edition of Eurasianet on February 26.
Georgia was seeking a reliable partner in the US and Europe to avoid threats from its northern neighbour Russia.
[The Sochi Olympic] Games are over, and we expect Russia to increase pressure on Georgia before signing the Association Agreement with the European Union,” Gharibashvili said after meeting President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joseph Biden in Washington on February 25. [We] would highly appreciate the US administration, Congress, think-tanks…. [to express their] support [to] us through constant and proper messaging to Russia, upholding the European choices of Georgia,” Gharibashvili commented at a talk at the Atlantic Council.
