Georgia latest self-government elections were held in a new and successful way.

For the first time, Mayors of Georgia’s 12 municipal cities were elected on June 15 rather than being appointed, as it was in the past.

The new election process meant those elected to leadership roles will reflect society’s opinion.

The final results of Central Election Commission will be revealed after a runoff election is held in late July.

An article published on the Global Post website said the Municipal elections was a test for Georgia’s ruling party, ahead of the country signing the Association Agreement with the European Union.

The vote is the first test of the coalition's popularity since billionaire tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili stepped down as premier of the tiny Caucasus country in favour of inexperienced allies Irakli Garibashvili last year, read the article.
