Georgia’s Special Investigation Service on Thursday said it had exposed a senior inspector from the Samtskhe-Javakheti Police Department of Interior Ministry for stalking.
The Service noted the law enforcement officer, identified only through his initials, had established an undesired communication with a woman known to him, against her will, including persistent phone calls, communication through various apps, and illegal surveillance in public spaces.
The arrested person harassed the victim, repeatedly soliciting personal meetings and a relationship with her, the body said, adding the victim suffered mental anguish and moral harm, which made her substantially change her lifestyle.
Upon the victim's report, the Special Investigation Service promptly initiated an investigation, gathering evidence of the law enforcement officer's misconduct”, the Service stressed, noting the evidence collected during the investigation included video surveillance footage capturing the unwanted communication, detailed call and text message records from the officer's mobile phone.
The crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to two years.
