The Investigation Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry on Tuesday said its professionals had arrested a foreign citizen for illegal use of trademarks.

The Service said its investigation had found the offender had set up a workshop in the country’s capital Tbilisi, where, through hired persons, he applied branded sportswear trademarks to “cheap sports shoes” imported by him from abroad before selling the products.

The body added more than 28,000 pairs of sports shoes prepared for sale and 61,563 pieces of trademarks were seized from the workshop and a store related to the alleged offender.

The crime is punishable with imprisonment for up to two years.
