The Snowboard Junior World Championship has officially opened in Georgia’s ski resort of Gudauri, where 80 athletes from 18 countries will compete over the next two days.
The competition features athletes under 21 from Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, the United States and Georgia.
Irakli Burchuladze, the Director of the Mountain Trails Agency of Georgia, said hosting the competition was a “great success” for the country.
This is the last World Championship of this season, and we have successfully held world cups [and] the Freeride World Tour, so this has led us to hosting an event like this for the first time”, he said.
It was a challenge that we overcame, [and] our team worked tirelessly. The training and qualification stage was successfully completed. We hope to successfully hold the fifth international event”, the official added.
Peter Krogoll, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation Race Director, praised the support from the Mountain Trails Agency and Georgian Ski Federation in organising the competition.
We are thrilled to be present here in Gudauri, Georgia for the Snowboard Junior World Championship. It is a great opportunity to come here after successfully hosting the World Championship and other World Cups in Bakuriani last year”, he said.
