One charged for animal cruelty after death of dog in Tbilisi

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia on Friday charged one individual for animal cruelty and violence following the death of a dog in the country’s capital of Tbilisi.
The Office said its investigation had established the alleged offender had abused their father's Rottweiler on Wednesday, before throwing the dog from the eighth floor of a residential building.
It said law enforcement had arrested the perpetrator on Thursday, with the crime punishable by up to four years of imprisonment.
The body added it would ask Tbilisi City Court to set preventive detention against the individual.
A bill of amendments to the Criminal Code of Georgia aims to make punishment for animal cruelty and torture stricter, with the Parliament set to review the suggestions within accelerated timeframes.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, along with the Parliament, has prepared the legislative amendments to the domestic criminal code to ensure the prevention of cruelty to animals, the Office said on Saturday.
