The General Inspection of the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office on Tuesday said it had arrested two individuals for fraudulent misappropriation of money from citizens through misrepresenting themselves as officials of the body.
The arrested persons appropriated ₾50,000 ($19,273) and $30,000 from their victims after telling them they were authorised to transfer ownership of state-owned land under investment terms.
They also told their targets they could offer assistance in positive resolutions on citizenship applications in return for a “sizeable sum of money”.
Arrested following a court order, the offenders are facing six to nine years in prison.
