In his address, Garibashvili noted “last year, we started celebrating Mountain Days” and “it is a very important tradition that serves the purpose of appreciating mountains in general, [and] appreciating citizens living in the mountains”, the Government Administration said.

I believe that this is a very good tradition. Besides enabling Georgian citizens to enjoy the country’s truly unique nature, pristine nature - our treasure, as they say many tourists will also come and many vacationers will see the beauty and glory of our country, and I believe it is a very good tradition”, the PM added.

Initiated by the Georgian Government and personally by the Prime Minister for the second year in a row, this year's festivities saw forest rangers awarded for their loyalty to the mountains and special contributions to the development of the mountains.

Georgian chefs Levan Kobiashvili and Dimitri Sharashidze delivered a culinary masterclass and the event’s guests had a chance to get acquainted with the history of mountain-style khinkali. The festival’s space hosted a fair showcasing the products of local entrepreneurs, also an educational ethnographic corner.

The Mountain Days music programme in Shovi featured DJ Levi Love Disco, Nodariko Khutsishvili and the Band, Mariam Galogre, and Nini Asiliani.

Today the festival will also be held in Georgia’s northern highland region Tusheti and western region Imereti. On July 22, Kazbegi, Guria and Svaneti will host the Mountain Days, with diverse entertainment and educational programmes, masterclasses and food tasting celebrating local dishes.
