The Under-18 Chess World Championships have kicked off in Georgia’s Black Sea city of Batumi, with 457 competitors aged between 8-18 vying for honours at the event.
Gathering in the city from 38 countries, the roster of players includes top female players from Georgia and Ukraine in two six-game matches.
First-round pairings from the two countries for the fixtures at the Championships involve Maria Muzychuk and Nino Batsiashvili, as well as Anna Muzychuk and Meri Arabidze.
The competition is scheduled to run through next Monday.
