The Georgian Government has been doing “everything” to support Ukraine that can be done by a country that has parts of its territory occupied, President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili said in an interview released by Euronews on Wednesday.

Zourabishvili underlined Georgia could not act like a NATO member state in measures to be taken in the current context of Ukraine, as parts of its territory were occupied by Russia.

Georgia, having part of the territory occupied, being on the frontline, does not exactly behave as a country that is a member of NATO and is protected in many different ways,” Zourabichvili told the interview.

The Georgian President also spoke about the volunteers leaving to help Ukraine amid the Russian invasion, underscoring Georgian volunteers were departing on their own accord like those in “many other countries”, adding “it’s not a question for the Government.”

Zourabichvili also pointed out Georgia was part of “a lot of international sanctions” against Russia, adding the country does not have diplomatic ties with Russia since the 2008 war between the two states.
