Georgia’s western region of Guria now has a venue for “mediation of international standards”, Georgia’s national agency for crime prevention, execution of non-custodial sentences and probation announced on Thursday.

The agency said “all conditions and needs” for communication and negotiation were provided for parties in the new space, noting the launch marked the end of the necessity to find alternative spaces in the region for the work.
Tinatin Zedginidze, a manager of institutional mediation development, said it would be easier for mediators to fulfil their duties in the properly equipped space.

Mediation spaces are currently available in capital Tbilisi, western cities of Kutaisi and Ozurgeti and the central Georgian city of Khashuri.
The agency said a new mediation space would also open in the southern Akhalkalaki municipality by the end of the year.
Georgia plans to promote mediation as alternative to solving disputes without lengthy and costly judicial procedures. The Justice Ministry believes, it is “a natural and more favourable way” of solving business and civic disputes.
Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi will be the second city in Europe after Paris where the International Court of Arbitration will resolve commercial disputes.
EU and Georgia agree to enhance use of mediation
More than 100 leading experts and practitioners of mediation from around the globe are now in Georgia to attend a two-day international conference ‘Mediation Days 2018’ that kicked off in Tbilisi today.
Georgia’s State National Bureau of Enforcement reports that over the last four years the number of the cases solved through the mediation and reconciliation has increased by 80pecent.
