Georgian professor’s maths problem used at International Student Olympiad for first time

A mathematics problem created by a Georgian professor was used at the International Student Olympiad of Mathematics for the first time, with the event running in Bulgaria last week. 

George Arabidze, a professor of mathematical subjects at Tbilisi Free University and a curator of the team of Georgian students that participated in the Olympiad, devised the problem, with the University saying the selection of submissions for the competition’s tasks had seen fierce competition.

The Georgian students won four silver and one bronze medal at the Olympiad in individual categories, while the team earned the 33rd place at the tournament.

Held annually, the Olympiad featured the Tbilisi Free University team for the fourth time.
