Zurab Kakhabrishvili, the Georgian judo team doctor, made a vital intervention to help save Chaima Sidaoui, a teenage wrestler from Tunisia, at the ongoing World Judo Juniors Championships in Ecuador, the Georgian Sports Medicine Association said on Thursday.
Sidaoui had lost consciousness after a challenge by her opponent, Pihla Salonen of Finland, in round one of the -52kg weight category of the competition.
Noticing the Tunisian athlete required assistance, the referee first called the medical personnel of the tournament, the Georgian Association said, adding the situation only recovered after Kakhabrishvili rushed to the scene and provided the closed chest cardiac massage.
Kakhabrishvili is a member of the Georgian National Olympic Committee, the Secretary General of the Georgian Sports Medicine Association and a Professor of Tbilisi State Medical University.
