Georgian Judo fighters have gained one gold and two silver medals at the Paris Judo Grand Slam.
Overall, the Georgian team gained second place out of 68 teams participating in the international tournament, commonly known as the strongest event in world judo.
Avtandil Chrikishvili, who was Georgia’s Best Athlete for 2013, won the Grand Slam in the 81kg weight category. On his path to the final, Chrikishvili challenged Dutch, French, Japanese and South Korean rivals. In the gold medal match, he defeated Frenchman Luis Pietro.
Silver medals were gained by Amiran Papinashvili in the 60kg weight category and Varlam Liparteliani in the 90kg category.
Liparteliania was unable to fight for the gold as he sustained a leg injury in the semi-final.
The Georgian Judo delegation will return home after they take part in an international training camp in France.
