Georgian actors Mariam Khundadze and Taki Mumladze swept both of the Best Actress Awards at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on the weekend for their roles in director Ioseb Bliadze's latest feature A Room of My Own.
The prominent European festival handed out its awards on Saturday, with the two actors distinguished for their parts in the film that had also been selected for the Crystal Globe Competition at the event, and described as a "self-assured" and "authentic" work in the run-up to its screenings.
Khundadze and Mumladze received their awards from the acclaimed actor Benicio del Toro, with the prize-giving coinciding with Mumladze's birthday.

The awards for the two actors come with four screenings of the feature at the festival, with the Georgian-German co-production taking a look at two millennial women facing societal stigma in Georgia's capital Tbilisi.
The two award-winners were cast in the film's screenplay in which Tina, a young woman, rents a room from the vibrant Megi, who becomes her pathway to discovering "what it’s like to be free and to be able to make her own decisions without being reliant on men" under a patriarchal society.
A Room of My Own comes through photography by Dimitri Dekanosidze, score by Beka Ungiadze and sound by Irakli Ivanishvili. The film marked its world premiere at Karlovy Vary, and follows earlier works that earned Bliadze recognition at European festivals.
The filmmaker was distinguished at last year's Karlovy Vary edition with the Fedeora Award, while he has also been awarded for his previous work, Three Steps, with a Special Mention of the Berlin International Film Festival and the Best International Short Film Award from exground Filmfest.
