Strengthening cooperation between the parliaments of Austria and Georgia and deepening relations between the two countries were discussed on Friday between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Wolfgang Sobotka, the President of the National Council of Austria.
Hosted as part of Garibashvili’s official visit to Austria, the meeting saw the parties emphasise the significance of development of cooperation between the two parliaments, and expressed hope the close cooperation and mutual visits of members of Georgian-Austrian parliamentary friendship groups would have a “positive impact” on their future relationship, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili highlighted the topic of the European Council granting Georgia the European perspective as a “recognition of the progress” achieved by Georgia over the years, as well as the “high level of integration” of the country in the “European family”. He emphasised his Government had already started the work on fulfilling conditions established by EU authorities for granting the membership candidate status to Georgia.
The meeting also discussed the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and the impact of the war on the security environment in the Black Sea region. Garibashvili thanked Sobotka for his “strong support” for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
