A foreign citizen was arrested at the Tbilisi International Airport and charged with illegal purchase, storage and smuggling 12 kilograms of marijuana, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Monday.
The state body said officers of its Central Criminal Police Department and the Finance Ministry’s Revenue Service Customs Department had made the arrest and seized the batch from the arrested.
The law enforcers seized the package from a pre-arranged concealment section in the travel bag of the offender, who smuggled the drugs into Georgia from South Africa, the statement said.
The crimes are punishable up to 20 years in prison, or life imprisonment.
