The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has arrested three individuals for smuggling large quantities of undeclared gold and silver items across the customs border.
The state body said on Wednesday the arrested individuals had smuggled "various items" of 2,260 kg of gold and 6,189 kg of silver.
Circumventing customs controls through the Sarpi Border Crossing Point in the west of the country, the group smuggled in items worth ₾429,111 ($141,476/€134,648).
The offenders are set to face up to 11 years in prison.
