Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili on Sunday honoured the country’s Muslim community on Iftar, an observance related to the month-long fasting of Ramadan for the followers of the religion.
In an occasion hosted at Tbilisi’s hilltop Funicular Restaurant, the Government head congratulated the community on the holy month of Ramadan, and extended his appreciation of their “hard work and dedication.”
We are all proud of our centuries-old brotherhood, friendship, and of course, we will pass on this wealth to our children, to the future generations. Respect for each other's traditions and beliefs is our way of life and of course, even today, our meeting is proof of that,” the Georgian PM told the guests.

Garibashvili recalled establishing the State Agency of Religious Affairs back in 2014, which, he added, aims to “protect and develop traditional religions in our diverse country.”
In their mark of gratitude, the community that gathered at the Tbilisi location presented the PM with a Quran edition released for Muslim servicemembers of the Georgian Defence Forces during Garibashvili's previous tenure as the Defence Minister.
Iftar, an evening meal honoured in the event, is an occasion with which Muslims end their Ramadan fast after sunset.
