Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has promised the state would never let any kind of religious conflict take place in Georgia.

Garibashvili congratulated Georgia’s Muslim population on Kurban Bayrami, the second of two religious holidays celebrated by Muslims, today.

The Prime Minister went to the mosque in Tbilisi’s centre to celebrate the holiday and attend a service with Georgian Muslims.

He stressed the state was supporting all faiths in the country. Garibashvili spoke about the recent religious controversies in Georgia and said those "provocations were artificially organised."

"The state will be uncompromising with regard to such provocations," the PM said.

"This day is connected with victory, hope, welfare and peace. We should once again show everyone that we, Georgian Muslims and Georgian Christians, live harmoniously together.”

Garibashvili said he was always proud of his country’s cultural diversity. He vowed he would never let any conflict take place in Georgia, especially on a religious basis.

Kurban Bayrami, also called the Feast of the Sacrifice, honoured the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his promised son.

In Georgia, which is a Christian country, Islam is the second largest religion. Currently, Muslims constitute approximately 10 percent of the country’s population.
