The Georgian public registry has agreed for the first time to officially change the indication of a transgender individual’s gender from male to female for the first time.
The applicant, who had undergone the gender reassignment surgery, has received the renewed birth certificate.
Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group (WISG) has stated earlier today that the change, which came into force on March 25, is an important achievement.

However, WISG says that without allowing other transgender people have their gender changed, their vulnerability to discrimination and hate crime would further increase in Georgia.
March 31 marks the International Trans Day of Visibility, which is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of trans and gender diverse individuals as well as raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.
