Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has paid her first official visit to Cyprus on November 9 in the capacity.
President Zurabishvili and President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiadis held a face-to-face meeting, during which diplomatic relations of both countries were discussed.
Following the meeting Anastasiadis said Cyprus will fully support Georgia’s efforts to further strengthen its collaboration with the European Union within a partnership and cooperation agreement.
Cyprus has been, for years, a steadfast supporter of Georgia’s path toward the European Union.

Zurabishvili noted Georgia looks forward to Cyprus’ support for its European aspirations.
Georgia recognises that it can learn from Cyprus, which walked the same road towards its accession to the EU… One might think that Cyprus is a small country, not one that might decide the fate of the EU. But for Georgia it is very symbolic because Cyprus has already walked the path we are on today. Cyprus achieved its result in 2004 and knows the path”, said Zurabishvili.
Speaking at a joint press conference after their talks, Anastasiades and Zurabishvili said that they had also discussed ways to further improve the already excellent relations between their countries. They also assessed regional issues of mutual concern, such as the developments in the southern Caucasus, security issues in the Black Sea region and the situation in the eastern Mediterranean.
During the meeting Zurabishvili also talked about the Russian occupation. She also noted that the coronavirus pandemic has further complicated and aggravated the humanitarian situation in Georgia’s Russia occupied regions.
Salome Zurabishvili also met with the Patriarch of Cyprus Chrysostomos II and the Georgian Diaspora in Cyprus.
