2,163 Georgian citizens have requested asylum in Germany between January and August 2021, making for a total five percent of applications, Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) says.
1,811 Georgian citizens requested asylum in Germany in the same period of 2020.
In total 108,375 foreigners requested asylum in Germany in the reporting period, mostly from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Georgia is among the top ten countries submitting applications for asylum in Germany.

The article said that ‘‘unlawful residency and unfounded asylum claims from some western Balkan states, plus Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, is triggering discussions on suspending visa-free travel to the EU’.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry has responded that EU-Georgia visa free travel is not at any risk.
