Salaries of vocational education teachers in Georgia increase

Salaries of vocational education teachers will ‘significantly increase’ and those working full time will receive about 1,800 GEL ($625) monthly, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has stated earlier today.
As of now the salary for full-time teachers amounted to 1,300 GEL ($450).
All vocational education teachers will see the salary rise," Gakharia stated.
The government of Georgia press office reports that salaries of 2,500 teachers will increase.
Funds allocated for vocational education have been increased by 57 million GEL compared with 2013," the government of Georgia press office said.
Gakharia said that education will remain a top priority in 2020.
The government will pay particular attention to education issues in 2020 as the development of the field will increase the rate of employment and deal with problems on the labour market,” Gakharia said.
He stated that the government is “taking genuine steps” for systemic changes in the education field.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated today that he does not want to see only elite schools in Georgia providing high quality education. Speaking at the summerising meeting of the Georgian ediucation reform, Bakhtadze said that all Georgian schools should be able to provide quality education.
The Georgian Education Ministry has announced plans regarding reforms in the vocational education field. Youth with a diploma attesting to a basic education [completing only nine grades at schools instead of 12] will be able to study school subjects in parallel with receiving a vocational education.
The latest international student assessment from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has placed Georgia in the bottom eight of 79 countries, ranking alongside Kazakhstan and Panama.
In terms of general education changes include supporting teachers and their professional development, better quality books for students and development of their creative thinking, as well as introducing modern technologies in schools.
