UNDP Georgia head Louisa Vinton has welcomed the launch of a new stage in Georgia’s Human Rights Strategy, stating she is delighted that the issue is the top priority for the Georgian government.
Vinton retweeted Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s post where Gakharia speaks about the new stage of the strategy.
Proud that @UNDPGeorgia is supporting development of #Georgia’s new #humanrights strategy, together with @UNHumanRights, with funding from @NorwayMFA & @EUinGeorgia, and delighted to see it given such high priority by @GovernmentGeo https://t.co/mNcR7kbDXf

Gakharia stated yesterday that the creation of a human rights strategy was initiated by former PM and current chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili back in 2013 and that the strategy has been taken into account in carrying out all democratic reforms in the country since that time.
Our government has always focused on human rights since 2012 [since taking office] and it all started under the guidance of Bidzina Ivanishvili, then Prime Minister of Georgia. We started work on a long-term Strategy on Human rights in 2013” Gakharia said.
Gakharia said that the Georgian government will use ‘all possible platforms inside and outside the country’ to successfully complete the new stage of the strategy [this year].
