The USAID will increase support for manufacturing, e-commerce, information and communications technology (ICT), and other innovative sectors, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava earlier today after meeting USAID Georgia Mission Director Peter Wiebler.
Turnava and Wiebler spoke about the expansion of the USAID Economic Security Program and future plans.
At the meeting it was noted that the USAID Economic Security Program strives for economic growth and development in value chains and sectors such as light industry, tourism, the creative industry, shared intellectual services, and solid waste management. The program also aims to attract investments in the country, creative high-paid jobs and increase sales.
Significant support will also be provided to e-commerce and other high-tech industries. Increasing the quality of digitalization is a trend that is especially important in the post-pandemic period,” noted Turnava.
Proud to announce an expansion of the USAID Economic Security Program. With our partners in the @GovernmentGeo and the private sector, we will support Georgia’s recovery from #COVID19, focus on manufacturing, e-commerce, ICT, and other innovative sectors. @usingeo @Economygovge pic.twitter.com/oxo28pKETy

The main reason why it is important to continue this program is this: it helps the economy to recover from the coronavirus crisis and includes programs that were not previously included in this program. We are talking about light industry, e-commerce, information technology and more," said Wiebler.
Turnava noted that USAID decided to expand its support and help tourism in Georgia especially after the coronavirus pandemic to support investment policy, training and attract investors.
She also added that one of the priorities is privatisation of state property and noted that the program will help the country attract potential investors in this regard.
