Georgia exported about 19.4 million bottles of wine to 37 countries in the first quarter (Q1) of 2019, which is a 10% increase compared to the same period of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.
Last month Georgia generated $47 million from the sale of wine abroad – 16% increase year-on-year.
The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgian wine in January-February 2019 were:
- Russia – 13,279,083 bottles
- Ukraine – 1,419,222 bottles
- China – 1,372,839 bottles
- Poland – 1,032,400 bottles
- Kazakhstan – 560,460 bottles
To European countries:
- Lithuania – 21% increase (134,376 bottles)
- Estonia – 18% increase (142,112 bottles)
- France – 41% increase (34,170 bottles)
- Sweden – 313% increase (9,000 bottles)
- Bulgaria – 161% (4,500 bottles)
To traditional export markets and Asia:
- Russia - 15% increase (13,279,083 bottles)
- Belarus – 36% increase (317,280 bottles)
- Mongolia - 7% increase (66,012 bottles)
To strategic export markets:
- Poland - 39% increase (1,032,400 bottles)
- China - 23% increase (1,372,839 bottles)
- United States – 165% increase (182,025 bottles)
In the Q1 of 2019, 148 companies exported wine, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.
Meanwhile, Georgia exported 6 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+74%) and 118,000 bottles of Chacha (+170%) abroad in Q1 of 2019.
In total, Georgia has sold $67.7 million worth of alcoholic beverages in the Q1 of 2019, including wine, brandy, chacha and others.
