Georgia exported about 33.6 million bottles of wine to 39 countries in January-May of 2019, which is a 6% increase compared to the same period of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.
In the reporting period Georgia generated over $87 million from the sale of wine abroad – 16% increase year-on-year.
The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgian wine in January-May 2019 were:
- Russia – 21,372,581 bottles
- Ukraine – 3,080,562 bottles
- China – 2,972,733 bottles
- Poland – 1,540,182 bottles
- Kazakhstan – 1,223,256 bottles
To strategic export markets:
- United States – 126% increase (322,835 bottles)
- China - 27% increase (2,972,733 bottles)
- Poland - 18% increase (1,540,182 bottles)
Export also grew to these countries:
- France - 91% (46,254 bottles)
- Israel - 72% (131,184 bottles)
- Lithuania - 57% (270,564 bottles)
- Belarus - 47% (680,906 bottles)
- Estonia - 33% (287,582 bottles)
- The Netherlands - 27% (42,380 bottles)
- Canada - 26% (76,860 bottles)
- Mongolia - 22% (106,452 bottles)
- Germany - 9% (274,721 bottles)
Meanwhile, Georgia exported 10.7 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+60%) and 216,500 bottles of Chacha (+61%) abroad.
