The Georgia-EU Association Council Meeting will be held on 5 March in Brussels, Belgium and will be chaired by Georgia this year, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has announced.

[This is] a very important format to further deepen our integration process, which has commenced and is successfully progressing”, said Bakhtadze.

Bakhtadze said that at the meeting, a special focus will be made on the economic policy of the Georgian government, the modernisation of the education system and a wide-scale reform that the government is carrying out in the education sector, along with the stimulation of free trade with the EU.

Also, a focus will be made on strengthening the Black Sea Transport Corridor.

We see that certain faults exist in transport and logistics in general, which hamper our ability to further increase our trade with the EU and to find a greater use of the free trade regime with the EU. Hence, a separate format will be given to the prospects of intensified trade and economic relations through the Black Sea within this context”, said Bakhtadze.

He also said that the occupation of the territories of Georgia by Russia will be one of the key topics of the meeting.

Bakhtadze said that the government has a significant action plan, which includes new initiatives to enable closer approximation of Georgia with European structures and that these initiatives will be discussed on 5 March.
