Georgia-Hong Kong free trade deal takes effect

The free trade deal signed between Georgia and Hong Kong took effect yesterday.

The deal was signed back on 28 June 2018, within the framework of the Belt and Road summit in Hong Kong,  the Georgian  Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reports.

It will enable Georgian entrepreneurs to provide their produce to Hong Kong’s seven-million market of high purchasing capacity.

The agreement is aimed at defining shipping and customs conditions between Georgia and China’s administrative region.

The deal also covers trade, intellectual property rights, technical barriers in trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

Georgia is the first country in the region to sign a free trade deal with Hong Kong. The agreement will promote awareness of Georgia and its business environment and boost market access and investment flows between the countries.
