Six have been detained for hooliganism and disobedience to police while protesting in front of the headquarters of the Georgian State Security Service earlier today.

Demonstrators at the State Security Service building demanded a meeting with the head of the state agency Grigol Liluashvili “to ask him why police are detaining demonstrators in Tbilisi.”

Demonstrations in Tbilisi were sparked after the rejection of the election bill on November 14 which offered the move to a fully proportional electoral system starting 2020, instead of 2024 as per the current state constitution.

The ruling Georgian Dream party accepted the change to the electoral system in the summer, during June protests, and proposed the bill.

However, 40 MPs of the ruling party refused to vote for the bill last week which triggered protests, with demonstrators accusing the current state leadership of “breaking its promise.”

37 were detained during the rally dispersal in front of the parliament building of Georgia on November 18, with only two of them have been released so far.

Four were detained yesterday during a rally in front of the headquarters of the Georgian Dream Ruling Party headquarters.

Demonstrators are rallying in Tbilisi and in the regions, symbolically lock the gates of state bodies.

The opposition has announced a large-scale rally on Rustaveli Avenue on November 25 and blocking the work of parliament on November 26.
