Head of the European Council Donald Tusk and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker have wished PM Gakharia success in his new role, saying “your leadership is crucial for the further strengthening of democratic institutions and inclusive political environment in Georgia.”
Tusk and Juncker said in the letter sent to Gakharia that the European Council and the European Commission remain “strong supporters of Georgia’s territorial integrity” and will continue close cooperation with the government of Georgia to help the country peacefully resolve conflicts [with Russia] and help the people in the currently occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, the government of Georgia press office reports.
We are looking forward to working with you to further strengthen bilateral ties, to achieve bigger economic and political goals per the EU-Georgia Association Agreement,” the government press office has cited Tusk and Juncker as saying.
Gakharia replaced Mamuka Bakhtadze in the role earlier in September.
