Ex-deputy Interior Minister Mezvrishvili to coordinate new PM’s office

Former Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili will now be responsible for the new Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s public relations office, protocol and foreign relations issues.
The post was introduced by previous PM Mamuka Bakhtadze and was maintained by Gakharia.
Mezvrishvili had served as deputy Interior Minister since 2017.
Previously she chaired the Department of Supervision and Strategic Development for Prosecution (between 2013 and 2017).
A total of 58,412 crimes were reported in 2018 in Georgia, of which 20,233 were solved, show data from Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili says that police were attacked during the June 20 rally in Tbilisi and they were forced to defend themselves and use force. Mezvrishvili says that it is less important who made the order, or whether the police acted without the order of top officials.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has launched an information campaign against child marriage. The presentation of the campaign was held at Rooms Hotel today, where Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili called on the public to immediately inform police of cases of early marriage.
Five individuals have been detained for administrative offences, while an investigation has been opened for two criminal offences related to today’s by-elections in Tbilisi and in the regions, Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili has reported.
Former Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili will be the new head of the government administration. As for Kakhi Kakhishvili, who served at the post from July 2018, will be PM Gakharia’s adviser.
