IMF Mission lauds dynamics of Georgian economic growth

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission assesses the dynamics of Georgia’s economic indicators as positive, the IMF Mission chief Mercedes Vera-Martin notes at a meeting with the Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia today.

According to the IMF Mission, the Georgian economic growth rate is stable and the current account deficit of the country has improved.

The dynamics of Georgian economic growth is quite stable," the IMF Mission chief Mercedes Vera-Martin said. 

The Georgian GDP has increased 6.1% in July 2019. Geostat reports that GDP has grown 5.1% overall in January - July 2019.

The unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 11.4% in the second quarter of 2019.

Gakharia noted that the goal of Georgian government policy is to ensure fiscal sustainability and economic growth.

Gakharia also reaffirmed his readiness for further cooperation with IMF.

The IMF mission will also visit Georgia again in October 2019.
