Police detain 3 for stealing $73,000 from Georgian TBC, Bank of Georgia accounts

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia held a special briefing earlier today to report the detention of three individuals for cybercrime.

Georgian law enforcers have detained one Georgian and two Turkish citizens for the illegal use of computer data and stealing $73,000 from the accounts of two key banks in Georgia - TBC and Bank of Georgia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs says that the individuals created fake TBC and Bank of Georgia Facebook pages through which they offered different products to Facebook users with the name of the banks and made them share their bank accounts to steal money.

The video has been released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. 

The ministry says that the detainees transferred the stolen money to earlier created bank accounts in other banks or online gambling accounts.

The detainees face two to 10 years in prison,” the ministry stated.

The Interior Ministry said that the case was solved with the close cooperation with banks.
