Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has met Polish President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw earlier today, where she stated the importance of further support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and briefed Duda about the severe human rights situation in the two Russian-occupied regions of Georgia.
Zurabishvili once again stated that the EU and its partners should give proper assessments to Georgia’s achievements as only common evaluations are not sufficient and said that Georgia’s sectoral integration into the EU need to be actively supported,” the president’s press office reports.

Zurabishvili pointed at the importance of regulated circular migration with the EU-member states [migration for working purposes], which would decrease the number of illegal migrants.
Briefing Duda about the current situation in the two occupied regions of Georgia Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), Zurabishvili said that the format of the Geneva International Discussions on Georgia’s conflict issues should be changed and upgraded to a new, higher level.
Speaking about NATO-Georgia relations, the presidents said that it is important that in 2019-2020 the Polish embassy to Georgia will perform the role of the NATO contact embassy in the country.

Zurabishvili said that Georgia is interested in learning from Polish experience regarding state decentralization.
Both presidents said that the 100th anniversary of Georgian-Polish diplomatic relations indicates the close ties between the two countries.
Zurabishvili thanked Duda for his country’s support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and territorial integrity.
Zurabishvili is visiting Poland on May 7-8. On May 14-15 she will visit Latvia and then Estonia on May 15-16.
