The United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent said US supports Georgia as its partner.
We support Georgia’s success as a prosperous country, a secure country, and one with democratic and accountable institutions”, George Kent stated.
The US official made remarks at the meeting of the Democracy Work Group of the US-Georgia Strategic Partnership Charter on May 3.
He said although this is the Democratic Working Group, but it covers a number of areas, including:
"A democratic society is a society that is resilient against outside aggression, a society that has a functioning rule of law is a society that will attract foreign investment and allow Georgians to live more prosperous lives”, he also stated.
During his visit to Tbilisi, the US official met with the Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Foreign Minister Davit Zalkalilani and Parliamentary Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze.
Bakhtadze and Kent discussed the prospects of enforcing a free trade agreement between US and Georgia, cooperation in defence and security, regional challenges as well as the role of the Black Sea region in ensuring the overall Euro-Atlantic security, PM’s administration reported.
