Georgian prop Zurab Zhvania scored a try as his Wasps Rugby Football Club recorded "one of the season’s more improbable outcomes" by defeating Premiership Rugby leaders Exeter Chiefs on Sunday.

The 27-year-old went over on the 60th minute after an interplay of passes with teammate Nathan Hughes to mark the fourth try of his team in the match that finished as the Wasps' first ever win at Sandy Park.

The fixture was only the fourth loss for Exeter in 19 games, with the team becoming known for rarely conceding a loss at home turf.

Exeter lose at home so rarely this ragged defeat to gallant Wasps represented one of the season’s more improbable outcomes," a match report from The Guardian noted.

The Sunday match was also the 100th Premiership Rugby game for the hosts, however it turned into an occasion for the fifth-placed Wasps, represented by Zhvania's post-try celebration.

Scoring one more try than their counterparts from the Chefs, the visiting players kept their points advantage for the eventual win with a score 26-19.

[Exeter] chucked everything at us and we stood up to it all. I couldn’t be prouder of the boys," Wasps director of rugby Dai Young was noted for saying following the game.

Zhvania joined the Wasps for the 2018-2019 season last summer after spending six seasons with Stade Francais in France's Top 14 championship.

He signed an extension to his contract in January and will continue playing for the English club for the 2019-2020 campaign. The prop has also appeared for Georgia in 40 caps and scored 11 tries.

Wasps sit 30 points behind Exeter but only three off Harlequins in fourth in the championship title. Their next fixture will come against second-placed Saracens on April 27.
