The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reviewed Georgia’s application to host the 2030 winter olympic games in Georgia and supports the country’s aspiration.

"I think it is the right time to express your willingness to host the winter olympic games and we support it,” Nawal El Moutawakel, Vice President of the IOC told Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at the meeting held yesterday.

As Kvirikashvili said, the development of winter resorts and skiing sports is one of the top priorities for the Georgian government which is putting in a lot of effort to reach this goal.

El Moutawakel is visiting Georgia with members of the committee to present Morocco as a pretendent country for FIFA’s World Cup in 2026.

A special group of experts and advisers from the IOC visited Georgia in March to learn about the country’s mountain resorts’ infrastructure. Based on the estimations of the group, the Georgian Government will create an action plan for developing Georgia’s ski resorts to host the winter Olympic Games in 2030.

The decision to send a group of experts and advisers came after a meeting between Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland on January 22, 2018.
