Lisa Batiashvili to join Staatskapelle Berlin, Daniel Barenboim in anniversary Berlin concert

Award-winning violinist Lisa Batiashvili will join celebrated conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim and Staatskapelle Berlin orchestra in celebration of a double anniversary of two of the 19th century’s greatest composers: Gioachino Rossini and Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Batiashvili and the orchestra based at the Berlin State Opera will be led by Barenboim for two shows marking 150 years since the death of Rossini and the emergence of Tchaikovsky as a symphony composer.

The concerts, hosted for the opera venue’s seasonal ticket subscribers, will feature Symphony No. 1 by the Russian composer as well as works by Claude Debussy and Karol Szymanowski.

It's been 150 years since Gioachino Rossini, the great Italian opera master, died in his adopted home in Paris. And just as long ago, in 1868, Tchaikovsky first appeared as a symphonist”, noted a preview for the anniversary concert.

With the two shows on Monday and Tuesday, the Berlin theatre will host the latest collaboration between Barenboim, the Georgian violinist and the capital city’s orchestra.

A recording of works by Tchaikovsky and Jean Sibelius, performed by the artists, was praised as "luminous playing of Batiashvili and the Staatskapelle Berlin under Daniel Barenboim" by classical music review magazine Gramophone last year.

The record saw Batiashvili, a recipient of two ECHO Klassik awards among other prizes, featured in the magazine’s Artist of the Year award poll.

The violinist was also recently selected as the soloist for this year's Nobel Prize Concert and will head the high-profile Audi Summer Concerts in Germany in 2019.

Born in Georgia, she has been based in Germany since the early 1990s and is a graduate of the Hamburg High School of Music.
