Georgian leaders welcome Cyprus parliamentary speaker on historic visit to Georgia

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has met with the Parliamentary Speaker of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris who is paying his first historic visit to Georgia.

Despite the 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, none of the parliament speakers of Cyprus has ever conducted an official visit to Georgia.

Welcoming Syllouris at the Presidential Palace yesterday, the two officials discussed strengthening economic ties and developing tourism.

Meeting with Syllouris, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze called the parliamentary speaker’s visit to Georgia "historic”. He believes this visit is yet another step forward to strengthening cooperation between the two country’s legislative bodies.

Having met with his Georgian counterpart, Parliamentary Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze yesterday, Syllouris will leave Georgia on March 21.
