Georgian Former President Saakashvili re-detained in Ukraine

The press office of Georgia’s third President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is in conflict with his former ally President Petro Poroshenko, says that Saakashvili has been abducted from a restaurant in Kiev.
A video went viral on the internet which revealed people in military uniform detaining Saakashvili in the restaurant Sulguni.
Saakashvili’s ally in Ukraine David Sakvarelidze claimed that the former president was detained by Ukraine’s border service staff and the aim of the "illegal detention” was Saakashvili’s extradition.
The Ukrainian media outlet TCH reports that Saakashvili may be extradited to Poland.
Ukraine’s official bodies have not yet confirmed the detention.
The current incident comes in the wake of high-profile trials against Saakashvili in Ukraine for cooperating with illegal groups to overthrow Poroshenko’s government, which Saakashvili rejects.
Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko stated in Tbilisi today that the extradition of Georgia’s third President Mikheil Saakashvili, who faces several charges in Georgia, is dependent on the request from Georgia’s Government.
The lawyers representing Georgia’s ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili and other former government officials were officially given charge sheets that detailed the official charges against their clients at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office today.
Georgia’s third President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is charged with several crimes in Georgia, has been detained by Ukrainian security forces today in Kiev. Saakashvili is charged with cooperating with criminal groups and the cover up of offenses committed by them.
Kiev’s Court of Appeals turned down the previous verdict of the Pechersk District Court and sent Georgia’s third President Mikheil Saakashvili to home detention for charges related to the alleged support of criminal groups.
The former president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been deported to Poland after his re-detention in Ukraine yesterday. The Ukrainian border service said Saakashvili was in Ukraine illegally and thus was sent back to the country from which he arrived. Poland's border service has confirmed that Saakashvili is now in Poland.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office says that they have already appealed to Polish authorities to extradite Georgia’s third and former president Mikheil Saakashvili back to his homeland.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has restored the Ukrainian citizenship to ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who served as the Odesa Governor in Ukraine between 2015 and 2016 and then went into the opposition of his former ally, now ex-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
