US State Secretary Pompeo calls Georgian President-elect Zurabishvili to congratulate on her victory

The State Secretary of the United States Mike Pompeo has called Georgian President-elect Salome Zurabishvili to congratulate her on her victory in the 28 November presidential race, the US Department of State wrote yesterday.

They discussed U.S.-Georgian cooperation on common global security priorities, the United States’ unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and the importance of electoral and judicial reforms for Georgia’s democratic development and Western integration,” the statement reads.
The inauguration ceremony of the new president of Georgia will take place on 16 December in the Telavi town of eastern Georgia.
The Georgian Dream ruling party endorsed independent presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili, who based on exit polls has won the election, made her first comment and stated that her ultimate goal will be fighting for the reintegration of lost territories.
France is ready to cooperate with Georgia’s newly elected president Salome Zurabishvili to strengthen relations between the two countries, the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite have also congratulated Zurabishvili on her election as President of Georgia.
The Georgian Central Election Commission has released the final results of the presidential elections. The commission has stated that 100 per cent of votes have been counted. Zurabishvili received 1,147,627 votes, while Vashadze-780,633.

The ministry says that the visit ‘once again points to the firmness of the US-Georgia strategic partnership and reaffirms the commitment of the two countries to further strengthen ties.’ The ministry stated that meetings with top Georgian officials will focus on the priorities under the United States-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership.
