Georgia to have new, European standards customs code in 2019

A new, European style, customs code will come into force in Georgia in 2019, announces Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze.
With the new customs code we will be able to more effectively integrate Georgia into the global economy”, said Bakhtadze.
Bakhtadze said that the existing customs code failed to respond to current challenges and that is why the government initiated the new customs code.

We aim to make Georgia the economic centre of the region. Having a customs code that is based on digital technologies and is maximally adjusted to the customers’ interests is a very important prerequisite for achieving this goal”, said Bakhtadze.
The new code is in full compliance with high, European standards. It has been drafted by Georgian and EU experts. The new code will provide stimulus for new investments from Europe in Georgia and help the integration of Georgian businesses on the European market, Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani told businessperson in the Poti economic zone, in western Georgia, today.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated today that the government will present a new, European style, customs code in the next week.The PM said that the new code will ensure the electronic offer of all customs services for businesses.
To promote ease of doing business in Georgia, the Government is further simplifying duty tax rules for imported goods.
